Stanford Windows Infrastructure
The Stanford Windows Infrastructure was created to address several issues for the University, including the need to move closer to single sign-on, provide location-independent access to resources, and provide manageability and security for the Microsoft Windows platform.
From the client perspective, the infrastructure provides:
- Common services of authentication, directory services, and name resolution for the Windows environment.
- Single sign-on capability between Unix, Mac, and Windows resources
- Automated account management based on the SUNet account system
- Automated replication of SUNet registry groups for consistent access controls across platforms.
- Delegation of administration to local Windows support.
- Distributed resource sharing and collaboration
- Ability to deploy Exchange services without added infrastructure
- Ability to leverage policy for security and manageability
